Kenya to lockdown two COVID-19 hot-spots for 15 days

Two COVID-19 hotspots have been identified by Kenya and will be on total lockdown for 15 days to try and contain the spread of coronavirus, according to the government.

The BBC reports that the government believes the two areas, Eastleigh, a Somali-dominated suburb of Nairobi and Mombasa's Old Town, have become centres for infection.

There will be no movement "in and out" of the two places, the ministry of health said in a tweet.

Kenya's Ministry of Health stated that "There shall be cessation of movement in and out of Eastleigh and Mombasa Old Town for the next 15 days.

"Eateries, markets within the two areas should be shut down.#KomeshaCorona update."

"Truck drivers shall be tested before leaving the port and must be tested after every 14 days.

"They must also produce a COVID-19 certificate before they are allowed to come in and go out of our border," according to CS James Macharia, Ministry of Transport.

According to reports, Kenya has a national record of 582 COVID-19 cases, AFP news agency reports.
