Kenya's COVID-19 cases rise to 189 as health officials announce five infections

The number of coronavirus cases in Kenya has risen to a total of 189 after the health ministry recorded five new cases, according to reports.

The Kenya Center for Disease Control made the announcement of on Friday and according to the Health Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, only one of the five Kenyans infected has travel history to the UAE.

Of the five new cases, there are three male, two female.

Kagwe, during his daily briefing on the coronavirus on Friday at Afya House, said the five new cases were out of 504 samples tested.

Kenya's health ministry also announced that 10 persons will soon be released from the Mbagathi Hospital Isolation Centre after they tested negative twice.

“2,054 contacts have been traced so far as we continue with the exercise,” said CS Kagwe.

“Friday marks Day 30 of efforts to stop the spread of the virus…… indeed, our ways of life have changed dramatically. Good Friday would have been that special day when we congregate with family and friend. But this day is different,” CS Kagwe said.

“The true meaning of Easter is victory over death. Let’s rededicate ourselves to the fight of our times.”
