Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and EbonyLife Place have partnered with Kaffy’s Imagneto to stage EkoDance.

The live dance extravaganza was staged recently to create greater awareness of the importance of dance in Nigerian culture and to give a platform to some of the most exciting dance companies from Lagos and beyond. EkoDance featured some of Nigeria’s most talented dance groups, including Lagos State Standing Troupe, Leap of Dance, Magnets, Chrysolite Crew, Addicted to Dance among others.

EkoDance is the fourth of twelve events in the Eko Tourism Art and Culture Series, curated by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture and Ebonylife Place, in partnership with leading organisations promoting Nigerian culture and the arts.

It was an afternoon of live dance, music, and learning, with an entertaining lineup of performing talents and one of the icons of modern dance in Nigeria.

A major highlight was the AfroDance Expression Masterclass conducted by the irrepressible Kaffy.

Kaffy lauded the Lagos state government and Ebonylife for the initiative saying dance in Nigeria was underrated. “I’m always happy to serve because I believe this country deserves a platform of expression, most of the negativity you’re hearing all around is because there is too much energy, we need a place for that energy to go and if we don’t direct it, it goes to the wrong place. Dance is underrated, this is a place where mental energy is expressed and diffused, this is a place where rehabilitation, reformation, networking, and young kids can see other kids behave in a certain way because dance is a form of discipline. Dance can unite everybody.”

In her words, the Hon. Commissioner of Tourism, Arts & Culture Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, said that the time was right for the event because many people forget the importance of dance in promoting the culture.

EbonyLife Place CEO Mo Abudu said, “We are proud to be hosting an event that brings dancers to the fore, and we are grateful for the expertise of Kaffy Shafau and her Imagneto Company in this area. I’m hoping that many of our talented young dancers will come and learn from her masterclass.”
