Joey Akan speaks on record contracts, says music artistes are disloyal

Journalist Joey Akan has labeled music artistes as disloyal as he advised investors to think twice before putting money on any act.

His words are coming amidst record label controversies involving artistes like Peruzzi, Kizz Daniel, Runtown etc.

In a series of tweets, Joey Akan stated the need for music investors to ensure they have an alternative plan towards protecting the deal they make with artistes.

According to him, relying on the law to protect a deal is not all that reliable because contract papers can be discarded into trash cans.

He tweeted:

"Also, I am the last person to advise anyone to put money on any act in the music industry.

Unless you have ways to extract back investment and protect it. The courts won’t help you. The law is super slow and will be manipulated.

Your contract paper is shawarma wrapping.

Artists are disloyal. As long as you are their lifeline, you are their king until something/someone they perceive is better comes along and whispers into their ears.

Where is Iyanya after he broke free from Temple? What happened to Kizz?

Villains win because the system allows.

Something has to give, and my advice is to pause all investment unless you can guarantee your ROI possibility without the courts, don’t do it.

That’s why the music industry here doesn’t attract investment. But crying won’t do sh*t for anyone.

The public won’t".
