'It’s almost impossible for a young man to find true love today' - Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo laments

Renowned relationship expert and cleric, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, has sparked widespread online debate after lamenting the heavy financial burden placed on modern dating.

In a post shared via his X account, the senior pastor of David's Christian Centre expressed sympathy for the current generation of men, warning that the commercialization of romance is destroying authentic connections.

Contrasting past dating dynamics with contemporary expectations, Pastor Okonkwo noted that simple gestures have been replaced by financial demands.

"I feel for the men of this generation.... relationships have been so commercialized nowadays that it's almost impossible for a young man to find true love.

"When we were young all you had to get was a girl's phone number, but now all they want to send is their account number. Now you are expected to pay rent, school fees and transport before you are taken seriously," he wrote.

His remarks quickly ignited mixed reactions across social media:

Many young men supported with his sentiment, arguing that transactional dating has eroded emotional intimacy and created unrealistic pressure on them.

Critics pushed back, contending that financial security has always played a role in courtship and asserting that some men prioritize surface-level attributes over seeking genuine partnerships.
