It is a shame that same sex marriage is illegal in Nigeria - Kiki Mordi

Kiki Mordi, the lady in the BBC documentary on Sex For Grades, has stated that it is a shame that same sex marriage is illegal in Nigeria.

In a tweet she shared, Kiki Mordi wondered why it is wrong for people of the same sex to love each other in the country.

According to her, this puts Nigeria on the wrong side of history.

She tweeted:

"It's almost 2020 & same sex marriage is still illegal in Nigeria. Like two people (of the same sex) can love themselves and want to build a family for themselves just like you & I but can't because it's illegal for them. A damn shame! We're already on the wrong side of history".

Her tweet didn't sit well with many Nigerians who frowned at what they perceived as an advocacy for LGBTQ rights in Nigeria.

Reacting to the backlash, Kiki Mordi tweeted:

"Waking up to people just finding out about my allyship for the LGBTQIA+ community. The same way some almost died when they found I was a feminist. When you're tired of putting me in your own box you will bring me back out".
