'If I had a child like Peller, I wouldn’t send them to university”' — Daddy Freeze

Popular Nigerian media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, widely known as Daddy Freeze, has sparked debate on social media after stating that he would not send a child with exceptional creative talent, like TikTok sensation Peller, to university.

In a recent video, Daddy Freeze explained that individuals who naturally excel in entertainment and digital content creation often achieve success faster by focusing on their skills rather than following the traditional academic route — especially when they already understand their life’s direction.

To support his argument, he referenced several global success stories. One of them was Khaby Lame, the Italian-Senegalese content creator who rose to global fame during the COVID-19 pandemic after losing his factory job.

Despite having only a secondary school education, Khaby built a massive following through simple reaction videos and later reportedly sold his company, Step Distinctive Limited, for about $900 million, highlighting the earning power of digital creativity.

Daddy Freeze also pointed to American streamer IShowSpeed, who has amassed over 50 million subscribers through energetic gaming and live streaming. Without a university education, IShowSpeed’s consistency and personality have made him one of the most influential young online entertainers worldwide.

Turning to the Nigerian scene, Daddy Freeze cited TikTok star Peller as an example, noting that the creator quickly bounced back from a car accident by purchasing an even better vehicle. He described this as proof of both resilience and the financial benefits that come with digital talent.

He further mentioned Egungun, another Nigerian entertainer who dropped out of school but eventually found success after focusing on content that connected strongly with audiences, despite earlier struggles with different formats.

While clarifying that he does not completely dismiss formal education, Daddy Freeze stressed that careers such as medicine, law, and engineering still require university training.

However, he maintained that children with unique creative abilities should be encouraged to develop their talents outside the conventional academic system, as this approach could offer them a stronger and more secure future.
