Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and Nollywood actor Lege Miami have ignited a social media storm after exchanging fiery words online in the wake of Nigeria’s World Cup heartbreak.
The drama erupted shortly after Nigeria’s defeat to DR Congo, a loss that ended the Super Eagles’ hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
While reacting to the team’s disappointing performance, Lege Miami referenced Nwabali during a video in which he criticised several Super Eagles players.
In his commentary, the actor praised Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Fredrick, and Calvin Bassey but delivered harsh criticism to others, including Nwabali, despite the goalkeeper saving two penalties during the playoff loss.
The situation escalated when Lege Miami made comments involving Nwabali’s late father, whose funeral the goalkeeper had only recently attended. The remark triggered a furious response from Nwabali.
Taking to his Instagram story, the Chippa United shot-stopper issued a stern warning:
“Lege Miami, remove my late dad’s name from your mouth if you are doing your content. If you don’t learn to respect people’s dad, you should at least respect the dead. I’m not your regular type of footballer; I’ll beat you mercilessly. You’re free to insult me, but keep my late dad’s name out of your mouth.”
Hours later, Lege Miami fired back by resharing the post and claiming that Nwabali had also insulted him privately.
While apologising for mentioning the goalkeeper’s late father, he insisted that Nwabali still owed Nigerians an apology for his performance.
Lege stated: “I am sorry I mentioned your late dad, but you don’t like listening to corrections. Your ‘hanky-panky’ on the pitch is too much. You are supposed to give your colleagues courage, but you play with the ball inside the box and make a lot of mistakes. We are only trying to correct you.”
He also shared a video demanding that Nwabali make a public apology, writing:
“@nwabali32, you came to my DM to insult my personality because I corrected your mistakes. Anyway, all I want to say is that you should make an apology video for Nigerians.”
The exchange has since gone viral, drawing intense reactions from fans, football lovers and social media users.
