I will be anxious if my daughter decides to do music - Simi opens up

Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress Simisola Kosoko Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress Simisola Kosoko

Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress Simisola Kosoko, better known by her stage name Simi in a recent Instagram live video with Susan Younis on @weareplatoon live said she’ll be anxious should her daughter, Adejare Kosoko toe the line of her parents by choosing music as a profession.

Simi who is married to Adekunle Kosoko, known professionally as Adekunle Gold shared her concern during the interview.

She explained that her music career wasn’t in any way pressured because she didn’t have anyone she was compared to. However if her child decides to become a professional singer, there’s is tendency for her to want to live up to her parents achievements and surpassing them as expected.

She emphasized that she’d support her child in whatever decision she makes regarding her career.

In her words; “Whatever she wants to do, I’m a hundred and fifty percent behind her. I’m going to be very honest. I feel like a part of me will be anxious that she wants to do music but only because I don’t want her to feel a kind of pressure like she’s coming from parents that have done this so there is standard she has to be following or she has to do. You know when people might be saying ‘oh this is how your parents…’.”

“I didn’t have to go through that. It’s me and me. The competition was me. So that pressure of having two parents that have done music. That’s the only thing I’ll be anxious about. I don’t want her to feel that.”

“I wouldn’t want her to feel…. I want her to be as original as possible without having to think that she has to do anything for anyone, even her parents”
