Ghanaian-based Nigerian Rapper A-Q has revealed that he was attacked by about ten masked men wielding machetes while out on a walk in East Legon, Accra, and underwent surgery for his injuries.
In a statement shared on social media, the rapper said the attack happened at around 10pm on Saturday, October 17.
"About ten masked men on five motorcycles surrounded me. The riders tried to box me into a corner while the men on the back swung machetes at me. My elbow took a blow that was meant for my head," he said.
A-Q said he managed to break away and run across the road, where a passer-by picked him up and rushed him to hospital.
"I was taken straight into surgery and my injuries were treated," he said.
He said the attack has been reported to the Ghana Police Service and is being investigated, adding that he is now in a safe place while police work to establish who was behind it and why.
The rapper thanked the stranger who helped him that night, as well as the doctors and nurses who treated him. He also appealed to fans and well-wishers not to worry, saying he is well.
"I ask that you don't speculate about who was responsible or direct anger at anyone. Let the police do their work, and if you have any information, please share it with them," he said.
