I took to skin bleaching because I thought black was dirty - Ghanaian singer, Mzbel

Mzbel Mzbel

Ghanaian singer, Mzbel has said that she took to skin bleaching when she had the notion that to be black was dirty.

Suffering horrible side-effects after she took to bleaching, Mzbel revealed that she got help after she shared her story.

She wrote: "I use to think I was ugly. I thought being black was dirty, so I took to skin bleaching and suffered horrible side-effects years later. But that is the result of self-hate. I shared my story and got help. Now I have learned to say: I'm a beautiful black woman".

In an interview last year, Mzbel revealed that the regrets she had about skin bleaching led her through a spiritual journey which finally made her quit the act.

“I have come to understand life and I am trying to connect to who I am, as a black person I don’t think I have to be apologizing for being black.

“I don’t care if people start saying I am black now, being white is not who I am and anytime I see someone with dark complexion I jealous the person. I move from Church to Church because I’m on a spiritual journey to quit bleaching”, she said.
