Nollywood actress Ini Edo has said before she decided to have her daughter through surrogacy, she suffered six miscarriages.
Ini Edo disclosed this during the latest season of the Netflix reality TV show, Young, Famous and African.
“I never thought I would have fertility issues, but I’ve had problems carrying pregnancies long-term,” she said.
According to the 42-year-old, the decision, which she now cherishes, became imminent as she approached 40.
“When it wasn’t happening as I hoped and I wasn’t getting younger, I decided to explore my options. Surrogacy became the best path for me, and I’m very happy with my decision,” she said.
Speaking about her daughter's father, Ini Edo revealed that he's still alive but plays no role in her upbringing.
“I’m raising her alone,” she stated. “There was no man in my life at the time, but I wanted to have a child. There are different ways to go about that.”
The actress revealed that her path to motherhood was something emotional to her.
"It’s not something people just wake up and decide to do. For me, it wasn’t a fancy way out—I’ve always wanted to be a mother,” she explained.
“I got married at the age of 26 because I thought that at 31, I would have been done with childbearing and I would have retired and faced my career. But life didn’t pan out that way. I tried. I have had over six miscarriages,” she admitted.
The actress got married to businessman Philip Ehiagwina in 2008 but the marriage ended in 2014 without any children.
