Nigerian singer Orezi has pushed back hard at Portable's claim that no Nigerian artiste can honestly say they have earned ₦500 million from music alone, revealing that he personally witnessed a fellow artiste being paid ₦400 million for a single performance in January.
Orezi's response came after Portable made headlines with a video in which he alleged that any Nigerian artiste flaunting ₦500 million in their account must be laundering money for drug dealers and loaders, since no artiste could legitimately earn that amount from music.
The singer dismissed the ₦500 million figure with a pointed remark, writing "500m na 350k Obama oo" suggesting that in the real scheme of things, the sum Portable was treating as unattainable was relatively modest.
"I performed at a show in January where a fellow artist was paid 400m. Portable, for some artiste, 500m is less oo. Confirm," Orezi wrote.
Rather than getting drawn into a mud-slinging match however, the singer used the moment to motivate himself, saying the prayer was simply to reach that level and beyond.
"The prayer is make we reach that level oo. Abeg make I go enter studio lol. I gats take my own share. I go like show 1 billion naira account balance soon. By God's grace, insha Allah," he wrote.
