Popular Nollywood actor Olaniyi Afonja, widely known as Sanyeri, has spoken candidly about his educational background and journey in the movie industry.
In a recent interview, the comic star admitted he now regrets not advancing his education when he was younger. He explained that as a child, he saw schooling as something meant to please parents and even viewed it as punishment because he did not understand its long-term value.
Sanyeri revealed that he has since taken steps to continue his studies, stressing that education has no age limit and anyone can return to school at any time.
Reflecting on his acting career, he disclosed that comedy was not his original path. He credited his early development to two mentors, the late Prince Oluseyi Adeoye and Hakeem Alimi Ajala Jalingo, who trained and guided him, even though they were not known for comic roles.
He also clarified the origin of his stage name, explaining that “Sanyeri” initially belonged to another performer.
When the original actor fell ill, he was chosen to take over the role, a move that ultimately defined his career and permanently attached the name to him.
