Popular TikTok personality Peller has raised concerns over what he described as an excessive tax demand from the Lagos State Government.
During a recent livestream featuring singer Peruzzi, Peller revealed that the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) had billed him N36 million in income tax.
“The task force said I should pay N36 million in taxes. I don’t have anything—I only came into the limelight last year,” he lamented.
In response, Peruzzi questioned Peller’s tax compliance and emphasized the importance of fulfilling civic obligations.
“Why haven’t you paid your taxes? Do you know you’re supposed to pay tax as a Nigerian? Do you know how much I pay in taxes? I won’t mention it here, but it’s more than the bill they gave you,” Peruzzi said.
The singer advised Peller to settle the tax bill to avoid legal consequences, including possible imprisonment.
However, Peller insisted that the amount was excessive, arguing that the government had never supported him during any of his TikTok live sessions.
He explained that the reason for the tax bill was his public display of assets and income on social media, which allegedly drew the attention of the authorities.
Despite Peruzzi’s suggestion to plead for an extension, Peller maintained that his earnings come from social media platforms and not from within Nigeria.
