'I’m trying not to be like my father' - Rapper Erigga speaks against polygamy

Nigerian rapper Erigga has shared his candid thoughts on polygamy, describing it as harmful—especially to women and children.

Speaking in a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Erigga revealed that his perspective comes from personal experience, having grown up in a polygamous household.

He noted that while polygamy might appear beneficial to the man, the emotional consequences are often borne by others in the family.

“I’m trying not to be like my father. I don’t like polygamy; someone always gets hurt — the woman. In polygamous relationships, it’s rarely the man who suffers; it’s always the women and the kids,” he said.

Erigga encouraged men to prioritize monogamy, calling it a simpler and more emotionally secure choice that supports healthier family dynamics.
