Controversial Nigerian actor, Yul Edochie has revealed that he decided to go into politics because young people in Nigeria do so much talking, instead of taking the initiative of running for office.

Edochie, who ran for governor in Anambra State under the Democratic People’s Congress (DPC) featured on Daily Trust’s Twitter Spaces themed: ‘Yul Edochie: Navigating Nollywood and Politics’.

According to him, he needed to be bold and take the first step in order to encourage other youth of Nigeria by letting them know that it is completely possible and okay to participate in politics.

“I actually took time to study the system and realized that we do a lot of talking and very little action.

"I notice that the youths do so much talking. A lot of young people want to see young people in offices but they are not ready to run for those offices.

“I just decided that somebody has to come out and take that bold step in 2017 when I first ran for governor at the age of 35. That was how I got into politics,” he said.

It must be recalled that earlier this year, the actor had announced his plan to contest the 2023 presidential election, but withdrew from the race a few months later.
