Music executive and entrepreneur Ubi Franklin has recalled how a massive Lagos flood years ago ruined his luxury vehicles and inspired him to devise an engineering solution for the state's persistent drainage issues.

Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, Franklin described coming to his office following a torrential weekend downpour in 2018 to find the parking lot submerged and cars floating across the area.

The entertainment mogul detailed how the fllod severely damaged his own high-end fleet.

"There's this flood that happened years ago... that cars were floating everywhere in Lagos. I entered my office, my C300 was parked there. See, water was just—water passed the bonnet. Even my Prado, the water was on the engine level already," he noted.

Upon investigating the cause of the disaster alongside neighboring business owners the following Monday, Franklin discovered that illegal structures built along the road had completely blocked the local gully system, preventing proper runoff.

Stressing that routine monthly sanitation is no longer enough to tackle the metropolis's recurring environmental challenges, Franklin issued an open offer to Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, claiming to possess a tech-driven fix for the city's clogged waterways.

"If Tokunbo is ready, the commissioner, I can sit with him and discuss it and all the gullies in Lagos will be open. I have it. Trust me. There's a technology I have, right, that will open up all the gullies in Lagos and get free flow of water," he noted.
