Award-winning Nigerian music video director, Praise Onyeagwalam, popularly known as Director Pink, has opened up on why she abandoned her dream of becoming an actress.
In a recent interview with Hip TV, the talented cinematographer revealed that she gave up acting due to the humiliation and sexual exploitation that many aspiring actors face in the film industry.
According to her, the long queues at movie auditions and inappropriate calls from some male filmmakers who invited her to suspicious locations made her decide to change direction and take control of her own career.
“I wanted to be an actress, but the humiliation was too much; long queues, shady ‘come to this location’ calls. I said ‘No.’ That’s when I chose to be my own boss,” she explained.
Director Pink noted that while being a music video director also comes with challenges, she is determined to make sacrifices and stay committed to her craft.
She further encouraged upcoming video directors to be patient and persistent, emphasizing that success in the industry takes years of hard work and consistency.
