Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has revealed his past struggles with illicit drug use and how he was able to overcome the addiction.
Speaking on the Tea With Tay podcast, the Pity The Boy crooner recounted that while studying at the University of Lagos, he frequently indulged in drugs until a near-death overdose incident forced him to change his lifestyle.
“I was a very bright student while studying at the University of Lagos. But I was indulging in illicit drugs. One day, I took it and almost died. I called my mother to book my flight to return to Abuja. After that incident, I only took drugs once before quitting,” he said.
Odumodublvck expressed gratitude to God for helping him escape addiction, stressing that many others were not so fortunate.
“I’m grateful because there are some people that went into that life and didn’t make it out. Some didn’t survive, others lost loved ones to drug abuse. Some even committed suicide due to overdose. I’ve seen a pregnant woman and her husband battling addiction. It’s really terrible,” he added.
The rapper also used the opportunity to caution young people against experimenting with illicit substances, warning of the dangers and long-term consequences of drug abuse.
