Hunger Protest: Portable calls protesters lazy and jobless

Singer Portable Singer Portable

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has sparked outrage after criticizing the ongoing protests against bad governance in Nigeria.

In his comments, Portable expressed his disapproval of the masses protesting on the streets, claiming that some individuals use the protests as an opportunity to loot and create chaos.

He described these protesters as "jobless and lazy," suggesting that they would refuse to work even if offered jobs.

According to the singer, some people prefer to steal rather than work hard, and he advised those with grievances against the government to voice them from their homes instead.

The protests, which began on August 1, 2024, are a response to the severe economic hardship that has intensified since President Bola Tinubu took office. The nationwide demonstrations are set to continue until August 10.

Portable's remarks have not been well received, with many netizens rebuking him for his insensitivity and lack of understanding of the protesters' plight.

Critics argue that his comments overlook the genuine frustrations and struggles of Nigerians facing economic difficulties.
