Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has spoken out against those exploiting the ongoing nationwide protest to vandalize and loot properties.

As reported by MyNigeria, on August 1, 2024, Nigerians across the country took to the streets to protest the severe economic hardship they are currently facing.

However, reports emerged that some individuals used the peaceful demonstration as an opportunity to loot government and private properties.

Reacting on her X handle Thursday evening, Makinwa condemned these actions, emphasizing that the looting and destruction of properties belonging to fellow Nigerians enduring the same hardships are unjust.

“Destroying properties and stealing from your fellow Nigerians who are passing through the same hardship is not right at all. This is very sad,” she wrote.

Addressing a critic who misinterpreted her statement, Makinwa clarified, “I did not say the stealing and vandalism were done by protesters. The people who have their things stolen are Nigerians too, going through the same hardship. What have they done to deserve this?”

Her comments highlight the need to maintain the integrity of the protest and ensure that it remains peaceful and focused on the goal of addressing the nation's pressing issues.
