How mimicking Davido landed me a comedy career – Nasboi

Popular content creator, Lawal Michael Nasiru aka Nasboi has opened up on how he launched into the entertainment industry, by mimicking Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

Nasboi, who began his now-defunct music journey as ‘Low budget O.B.O’ (as Davido is also known), noted that it was a strategy for him to gain Davido’s attention.

Eventually, he got more than he aspired to by just mimicking the DMW boss.

According to the funnyman, this strategy shot him into the comedy scene which he’s now popularly known for.

As such, the 30-year-old entertainer concluded that arriving at one’s destination isn’t a straitjacket route.

He tweeted: “I started mimicking Davido to get his attention for my music.

“Lol. Today, I’m popularly known as a comedian. Different nkoro dey to take reach destination…..”

In a new interview on TVC’s breakfast show, “Wake Up Nigeria”, Nasboi explained that he ditched mimicking Davido because he realised people would someday get tired of it.

Nasboi also said other characters like Akpan and Ikechukwu which he’d successfully created opened doors to movie roles for him, something his ‘Davido imitation’ may not have achieved.
