The House of Representatives’ has moved to close down adult websites nationwide. As a result, the action taken by the lawmakers has sparked concern over the issues the lower chamber is taking seriously in the country.

On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, the House of Representatives during plenary directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to enforce the immediate shutdown of porn websites in Nigeria.

The lawmakers also ordered internet service providers to block all access under the new directive.

This move caused a stir among Nigerians who questioned their priorities. Activist Martins Vincent Otse, popualrly known as VeryDarkMan voiced his concerns over their decision as he took to his social media page to share his thoughts.

He pointed out that many Nigerians, especially men, watch adult movies to forget about stress and sleep.

"It is the easiest form of enjoyment for anyone. If I talk now them go say I no get respect, you can't ban cows from entering people's farmland? A lot of people watch blue film to forget and sleep, what is the government doing for the youth?" VDM asked in the video.

VeryDarkMan mentioned that Nigerians could still access adult websites with Virtual Private Networks known as VPNs, adding that adult content was also readily available on social media platforms like X, formerly Twitter, stating that the House's move was not a smart one.
