He is like a new artiste - Wild debate in Ghana over Davido's heavy investment in 'Timeless'

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke widely known as Davido has achieved another record-breaking feat in his stellar career as his latest album "Timeless" has broken the record and topped numerous music charts.

Recall that after Davido's hiatus from social media and music scene, he released his fourth studio album dubbed "Timeless" on Friday, March 31 and has had a great reception.

Davido took to social media to release a teaser of "Unavailable" one of the 17-track album and has since got many talking.

Ghanaian media personality, Olele Salvador also took to social media to express his opinions on the singer's level of promotional investment.

Olele said in a series of posts that Davido put in the necessary work to guarantee that his "Timeless" album receives the attention he desires after making his comeback from the musical break.

According to the media personality, anyone who doesn't appreciate what Davido has done to promote his album is a hypocrite.

Olele compared Davido's comeback to that of American boxer Mohammed Ali's right fist, stating that Davido had invested a lot of time, effort, and skill into making the album a classic.

He continued by saying that because Ghanaians do not put in much effort in promoting their songs, they hardly thrive in their music.

He claimed that Davido could have depended on simply being a supersatr and not exerting any further effort to promote his record, but that's not what he did, instead, he made significant investments to make sure the album was a hit.

He wrote: "It’s pure hypocrisy to think what Davido has done with his album promotion is not something to admire. It has been as though he’s an upcoming artiste. He’s been away from the music scene for a while. Yet his come back has been harder than Ali’s right fist.

"He has been everywhere and rightly so. It’s not just about the video teaser; it’s the investment we are seeing making shid work. Whether Gringo or GUDA, when next have we seen such investment in our music industry? & these videos were pre-Covid.

"Until we match up & be recognized in the conversations of global music dominance, don’t be emotional in my mentions. We don’t like the truth. & even when we tell y’all the truth, y’all don’t use it. Just a few apply em. The ones who do, we give our support to. Medaase."

The posts received mixed reactions from Ghanaian social media users who believed it wasn't right for the media personailty to compare the Ghanaian music industry to that of Nigeria's.

Others however noted that in as much as the truth may hurt, it is better to call a spade a spade by pointing out the right things, hence agreeing with Olele.

JusticeKAmoah2: "Foolish truth , stop this nonsense"

SamuelB86293946: "in case you missed what he said, let me repackage it for you. He's telling your favorite musicians which includes my gospel people to focus more on the marketing/promotion if they want to bring in the numbers. Having a good track and a good video is not all it just phase 1"

TwumTweets: "Apparently there are quite a number of Ghanaian DJs on a $1000 budget each for Davido’s album in Ghana. This album rollout is one for the books"

CyaptanTMT: "To add a little, marketing no only mean say dancing or hopping on tiktok trends. If you’re not really about that style, you’ll appear corny and your swag reduction means people might dislike your personality more. Find your own unique & guerilla approaches to marketing your shit"
