Following concerns from fans as to why Wizkid's 'Essence' was not nominated for Record of The Year Grammy awards, the CEO of the award show, Harvey Mason has shared his thoughts.

After the nominations for this year's Grammy award, which is to be held on January 21, 2022, many questioned the nominations.

Some Nigerians were of the believe that Wizkid's song 'Essence' was widely received.

However, it came as a disappointment when the record was only nominated for Best Global Music Performance.

Reacting to the question as to why 'Essence did not make it to Record of The Year, Chief Executive Officer of Grammy Awards, Harvey Mason noted that, "It is a great record. He’s a very talented artist. I can’t speak to why it didn’t make it, but I do really love the record.”

He said this during an interview with Billboard on the Grammy Awards.

Speaking on the process for the nominations, Harvey said;

“I wasn’t nervous. I felt like we’d done a lot of important work on our membership. We’ve done a lot of outreach into different communities that we felt were maybe underrepresented in our voting membership,” he said.

“So I felt like the timing was right for our membership to be able to directly decide who the nominees were.

“That’s why we felt good with removing the nominations review committees at the time that we did”, he added.
