Four well celebrated cultural festivals in Nigeria

Eyo festival Eyo festival

1.) Durba festival

This festival is celebrated in different cities in Nigeria where there is an Emir. It is usually done during Muslim festive periods like Eid El Kabir and Eid el Fitri. The festival involves a parade of horses by the Emir and his entourage. The horses are usually beautifully decorated and made to match from a starting point to the Emir's palace. Durba festival holds in cities like Sokoto, Kano, Bida, Katsina etc.

2.) Agungu Festival

Argungu is a fishing festival which holds In Kebbi State in Northern Nigeria. It is an annual festival put together to foster unity among the fishermen who are predominantly Muslims. Tourists from all over the world converge in Kebbi to witness as fishermen gather in a lake to catch fishes which are sometimes the size of two men put together.

3.) Calabar carnival

This festival holds in Calabar, the capital of Cross Rivers State. It holds towards the end of each year and sees people from far and wide coming together to witness an array of colorful display. Beautiful women are seen dressed in gorgeous and colorful outfits for the occasion that comes with music and lots to eat.

4.) Eyo festival

The Eyo festival is indigenous to Lagos State and is performed on Lagos Island. In modern times, the festival is seen as a tourist attraction and holds at Tafawa Balewa Square. The festival involves dancers who dressed in white like masquerades. It is said that the culture is deeply rooted in the secret societies of the Yoruba people. It is usually done to see off the soul of a departed king or chief, or to usher in a new king.
