Entrepreneur Toni Payne has spoken against polygamy, saying it can never seem right, no matter how much money those engaged in it flaunt in public.
In an Instagram post, the businesswoman stated that polygamy is unhealthy and chaotic.
Vouching for the nuclear family system as ideal, Payne said such a system should consist of two partners and nothing more.
She wrote, "Not speaking in particular to anyone's situation, but I strongly believe that polygamy is unhealthy and chaotic. I do not believe anyone finds true peace in it, no matter how much money is thrown around and no matter how much you try to fool yourself. It always unravels into chos. It's just a matter of time.
"I have strong convictions on what a nuclear family is supposed to look like, and it involves two partners, not 3 or 4 or 1,0 but again, whatever works for others, I guess. Again, this is my opinion and preference, so I'm not telling anyone how to live their lives.
"For some of us who, unfortunately, chose the wrong partner early in our lives and ended up in a split. This concept still doesn't change. If you remarry or find a new person, it should still be you and your partner. If there are kids involved, the previous partners should focus on coparenting with clear boundaries. Love isn't painful, but choosing is.
"If I could change one thing about my story, it would be who I chose to start life with. I'm not saying this to slight anyone. I'm speaking about ME!
"I would have told the younger me to be more discerning and not be so naive, but I also know that sometimes you find out too late that their future lifestyle choices do not align with yours.
"I'm grateful it didn't happen 5, 10, 20 years in. Everyone's story will be different, but the premise is still the same. For true peace in a union, it has to be 1+1=1."
