Five times Tems have made Nigerians proud

Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer.

Despite having been in the music scene for a while she rose to prominence in 2019 when her song "try me" became one of the biggest hits of the year, fast forward to 2022 and Tems is attaining remarkable heights and is fast becoming the poster girl for Nigerian music on the international scene.

Tems has been the name on everyone’s lips in the previous year and even more so this year. It’s been back-to-back wins for the talented singer and she isn’t showing signs of taking her foot off our necks any time soon.

Checkout some of her core accomplishments that has made Nigerians proud.

1.Billboard hot 100 debut

Tems has became the first Nigerian female artist to debut on Billboard hot 100, in general she's the second Nigerian artist to debut after Wizkid.

Their collaboration "essence" is primed to be one of the biggest summer anthems in America and has won her numerous awards and other feats as well.

Since her debut on the Billboard hot 100 chart, Tems has made three other Billboard debuts.

In May, Tems made her debut at the No. 1 spot on Billboard Hot 100 charts with her feature on “Wait For U” by American rapper, Future.

Tems also debuted earlier on the Hot 100 last October, with her feature on “Essence” remix. The hit song by Wizkid also featured Justin Bieber, and peaked at No. 9 on the charts.

She got her previous entries into the chart from guest appearances in Drake’s “Fountain”.

In July, 2022 Tems made her debut solo entry, peaking at No. 90, with her 2020 song, “Free Mind” off her For Broken Ears EP, making it her fourth time appearing on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart.

2.Best International Act at the 2022 BET Awards

In June 2022, Tems broke a record as the first Nigerian female artiste and African female musician to clinch the Best International Act at the BET Awards 2022.

The singer, beat competition from her fellow Nigerian Fireboy, Dave (UK), Dinos from France and Fally Ipupa from Congo.

Others nominated in the category included Little Simz from the UK, Ludmilla from Brazil, Major League Djz from South Africa, and Tayc from France.

3.Tems credited as a songwriter on Beyoncé's 'Renaissance'

The singer was recently revealed as one of the songwriters on Beyoncé's upcoming album 'Renaissance'.

The track list of Beyoncé's 'Renaissance' was posted on social media on Thursday, 20th July, 2022 and Tems was credited as one of the songwriters on track 10 'Move' under her full name Temilade Openiyi.

4. Tems features on the soundtrack of Black Panther sequel 'Wakanda Forever'

Nigerian superstar Tems features on the soundtrack of the yet-to-be-released 'Black Panther' sequel 'Wakanda Forever'.

This surprise was revealed when Marvel released the trailer for Wakanda Forever on Sunday 24th July 2022 and it featured Tems singing a cover for Bob Marley's 'No Woman No Cry'.

The soundtrack album for the first installment of Black Panther was curated by Kendrick Lamar and it featured artists such as The Weeknd, SZA, Travis Scott, Future, Khalid, School Boy Q, Jorja Smith, Swalee, and James Blake, amongst others.

5.Tems bangs Grammy Nomination

Wizkid alongside Tems was nominated in the “Best Global Music Performance” category in the 64th Grammy awards.
