Five celebrities who opposed the protest against Tinubu's government
Today marks the seventh day of the nationwide protest against hardship, insecurity, high cost of living, and bad governance.
The protest which began on Thursday, August 1, 2024, in many parts of Nigeria, particularly in the north, south-west, and south-south regions is expected to end on August 10, 2024. It has thrown the country into mayhem with protesters sustaining severe injuries and others losing their lives.
The widespread demonstration has become a popular topic across social media platforms. While some influential Nigerians urged fellow Nigerians to shelve the protest others encouraged Nigerians to mount the streets and exercise their constitutional rights.
In this article, MyNigeria highlights the names of influential Nigerians who have kicked against the nationwide protest, urging Nigerians to seek alternative means, like dialogue to express their concerns.
Tonto Dikeh
Nigerian actress cum politician, Tonto Dikeh has made different attempts to talk Nigerians out of the planned nationwide protest, from advising Nigerians in a letter to statistical proof of President Bola Tinubu working for the betterment of the country.
Tonto Dikeh who was in June 2022, announced as the deputy governorship candidate under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2023 Rivers State gubernatorial election has been outspoken about her political choices and support.
While acknowledging the hardships and insecurities faced by Nigerians, she advised that the idea of protest might not be the most effective decision to make in addressing the country’s pressing issues.
In other posts, the actress took to her Instagram page to address Nigerians who are complaining about President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style, which they believe has brought them hardship and starvation. She noted that nothing a person does can ever be enough.
She wrote, “Statistics don’t lie. Everyone is working to get this country to where we want it to be”

Portable
Nigerian controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus well known as Portable also shared his stance on the planned nationwide protest, noting that he’s not longer at the level to protest, considering his financial status in the country.
In a viral interview video, singer Portable acknowledged that he was part of the October 2020, End Sars protest because he was poor then, and added that, for now, he’s doing well and he has set his priority right to focus on achieving more success.
In the same manner, he also urged Nigerians to focus on their endeavors and shy away from the planned nationwide protest and encouraged them to fight for their lives and not Nigeria, because the country is fine.
Reginal Daniels
Nollywood actress and billionaire wife, Regina Daniel has been constantly dragged on social media following videos of her addressing and urging Nigerian youths to escape from the nationwide protest.
The young actress who is a mother of two, shared a series of videos on her Instagram page pleading to concerned Nigerians to shun the protest, emphasizing the consequences, if hijacked by hoodlums.
However, the youths didn’t find her advice worthy, rather flooded her comment session with cryptic comments. Some believed she is privileged and has not proper understanding of the widespread hunger.

Yul Edochie
Popular Nigerian actor Yul Edochie also made it to the list of Nigerian influencers who urged Nigerians, particularly the youth to wave off the ten-day protest.
In a post made on his Instagram page, the actor was publicly showing support for President Bola Tinubu by wearing an outfit featuring the president’s face.
He expressed his unwavering belief in President Tinubu’s ability to fix the country, despite previously endorsing the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi in the run-up of the 2023 general elections.

Jide Kosoko
Veteran Nigerian actor Jide Kosoko, also made headlines following the ongoing nationwide protest.
During an interview with Bae U Barbie, the actor was asked what he thinks about the people who voted for President Tinubu being bullied.
In his quick response, he revealed that anybody who faces a bully has or herself to blame, that for him, he voted for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and he loves the man he voted for, added that, Tinubu is doing very well.
