Father’s Day celebration isn’t about gender - Waje

Singer, Aituaje ‘Waje’ Iruobe, has said the celebration of Father’s Day across the globe is not all about gender.

As the world celebrated Father’s Day on Sunday, June 20, 2021, the single mum declared herself a father to her daughter saying the day isn’t all about the male gender.

“Fatherhood isn’t about gender, it is about roles, fatherhood isn’t about donating sperm, it is about roles, motherhood isn’t about gender, it is about roles, I know people (men) who are much better mothers than mothers themselves. So darling I am not dragging anything, I am only proud that I can share these experiences with my daughter and that God gave me the capacity to do both,” noted Waje.

Waje, who was criticized by followers on Instagram for her stand, insisted that she stands by her words saying she plays the role of a father and mother at the same time.

A follower had asked Waje to desist from making such inference but the singer and songwriter noted that she’s proud to celebrate Father’s Day because she plays both roles.

Waje noted that being a father has nothing to do with gender but responsibility.

She added: “I respect your opinions but I don’t need your advice as to what or how I see my role. So let’s celebrate our wins and keep it moving, after all when I celebrated you fathers before posting my daughter and I and wishing myself happy Father’s Day none of you responded to in plain English keep it moving.”
