A former broadcaster, Daddy Freeze, has defended President Bola Tinubu on the removal of fuel subsidy.

In his maiden speech after being sworn in as the 16th president, Tinubu said from the 2023 budget he inherited, subsidy is supposed to end by June.

He maintained subsidy of petroleum products could not continue, promising to focus subsidy funds on infrastructural projects, education, and healthcare.

However, the declaration received diverse reactions from various quarters with many welcoming it while some criticised the president over the same.

Reacting to critics of the President, Daddy in an Instagram post shared a screenshot of Peter Obi’s tweet made during his presidential campaign where he vowed to remove fuel subsidy which he termed, ‘organised crime’ if elected.

The tweet by the former Anambra Governor on January 8, 2023, reads: “We are going to dismantle the confusion in Ports Administration and get this country to work.

”Fuel subsidy is an organised crime and I will remove it immediately if I am elected President.

”Which reasonable country will spend more on subsidy than Education, Health etc. – PO”

Noting in the post caption, Daddy Freeze stated: “Before you start complaining, even Peter Obi said he’d remove subsidy.”
