Ene Oloja, forgotten Nollywood icon marks 66th birthday

Wednesday, May 25, 2023 marked the 65th birthday of Nigerian screen icon, Ene Oloja.

Before she reportedly left the shores of Nigeria for supposed 'greener pasture', she was a household name in soap operas shown on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in the early 1980s and 1990s.

She came to limelight in the 1980s NTA soap; Cock Crow At Dawn where are starred as Zemaye.

The drama which was shot in Jos, Plateau State bhad a cast ensemble which included the late Sadiq Daba.

She also starred in the late 1980s NTA soap opera, Behind The Clouds, where she starred as Funmi, the elder sister of Bayo.

Both soaps are now rested but are timeless as Nigerians of that era can remember nostalgically her roles.

Oloja acted in other soap operas, scripted for TV drama series and soaps.

She also represented Nigeria in several International festivals of television and theatre.

She was among the NTA staff who pioneered acting and actively promoted theatre.

Sadly despite paying her dues to the industry, the industry today has refused to acknowledge and give her and her contemporaries the honour they deserved.
