Rapper Tobechukwu Melvin Ejiofor, popularly known as Illbliss, has revealed what he was told about praying for Nigeria.

Illbliss stated that an elder told him praying for Nigeria was a waste of time. He explained that he encountered the elder while praying for Nigeria during a recent morning mass.

The ‘Emi Ni Baller’ crooner took to his social media page to hail Nigerians surviving in the country despite the economic hardship, insecurity and poor governance.

He wrote, “Shoutout to everyone surviving Nigeria. I was in morning mass today reciting the ‘Prayer for Nigeria” and the elderly man next to me smiled afterwards and said ‘That’s a total waste of prayer time with God. You can’t Mock God.”

His comment sparked reactions from social media users.

@zinnyboi: When I was growing up, once the prayer is being recited in the church, at some point of the prayer I beginning to have goosebumps, hoping that things would be better in the long run, but things have still changed till now, still hoping things would change sooner..

@nnekeejike: As a young boy growing up in the Catholic faith, i just knew there was something off with this prayer. I have left the church for over 2decades and this prayer is still being recited. It was a good try by Catholic bishops conference. Prayer with no works=0
