Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, has opened up about being detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over claims of tax evasion.
He shared details of his experience while in EFCC custody, revealing that the investigation concluded he was not involved in any fraudulent activities.
Oladips’ arrest dates back to November 2024, when EFCC officers reportedly raided his estate around 3 a.m., detaining him along with other residents over alleged fraud. During a recent interview on Hip TV, the artist clarified that his detention was actually linked to unpaid taxes rather than any criminal offense.
“Nigeria just happened to me because it was just a normal night and EFCC entered my estate. I mean it’s a big estate and they were just going from house to house arresting people. I was inside my house. It was about 3am.
“I saw it inside the estate group that EFCC were inside. I promise you, I was on my bed pressing phone because it’s none of my business. I didn’t run because I don’t do fraud, I don’t do Yahoo. Na person wey do fraud go dey run.
“The next thing, they broke my kitchen door and entered my house and asked for my phone and laptop. I’m only using two phones, I don’t have a laptop. So they collected my phones did their investigation and realised that I don’t fraud. When they can’t find anything to hold me down, That’s when one of their oga came out and said do I pay tax? That’s how they locked me up for not paying tax”, he narrated.
