Forty years after the concept for a metro line for the state was created, the long-awaited commercial operations of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line System has finally commenced.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, was the first person to board the train during its inaugural trip as operations began on Monday, September 4.

The governor traveled from Marina terminal to Mile 2 via the train, then took the same route back to Marina.

Since the train began running on September 4, many people have actively sought to join the train.

People can be seen joyfully celebrating as they board the train to their destinations in a video that has gone viral.

Many social media users responded to the footage when it surfaced, with some predicting that Nigerians would soon destroy and abandon the train.
