Don Jazzy highlights challenges female musicians in Nigeria face

Renowned music executive Don Jazzy has recently voiced his concerns regarding the Nigerian music industry's reception of female artistes.

He points out a significant disparity in how female musicians are received in Nigeria compared to their male counterparts.

Despite the hard work and talent exhibited by these women, there is a noticeable lack of consumption and support for their music within the country.

This issue was brought to light by a social media post, which suggested that Nigerian female artists are more likely to achieve international acclaim than to be recognized as A-list stars in their own country.

The post stated that in many countries, women are seen dominating, or at least on par with men in the music industry. However, in Nigeria, our talented female artists seem to have better prospects of attaining global A-list status than being celebrated at home.

“You will see female dominating or at least equal to the men in other countries’ music industry

“But In Nigeria?..Our female artistes have more chances of being A-list globally than being A-list in Nigeria.”

Echoing this sentiment, Don Jazzy shared the post saying it's truly disheartening how these women dedicate an immense amount of effort to their craft.

He said; "And it’s so sad. The women put in soooo much work.”
