Don Jazzy clocks 38 today

Celebrating 38 years of life is one of Nigeria’s biggest music producers, Micheal Collins Ajereh, professionally known as Don Jazzy.

He was born on this day, 1982 in Umuahia, Abia State but hails from Delta State.

The Abia state native, had his primary, secondary and higher level education in Lagos where he was raised.

Although he attained a degree in Business Management from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, his passion for music began from childhood where he was seen playing the drums at age 4.

Fortunately for him, his uncle showed interest in his passion and invited him over to London to play drums for his local church. It was in London that he got the chance to hang out with kindred spirits like Solek, JJC, Kas, The 419 Squad and D’banj.

While preparing himself in line with his music career, he learnt how to produce from Emeka Infiniti at O-Town record company.

Jazzy’s music career as a producer was fulfilled when he returned to Nigeria with D’banj. They both partnered to produce Mo’Hits records and later signed artists on board.

As the record lebel grew, he worked with international artistes like Jay-Z, Kanye West, Snoop Dog and Beyoncé.

In 2012, he started Mavin Record and had one desire which is to make Mavin records a “production power house of African music,” a fit he has achieved.

The award winning producer can also boast of artists like Tiwa Savage, Dr.SID, D’Prince, Korede Bello, Reekado Banks, Di’ja, Poe, Jonny Drille and the DNA twins, who signed under the record lebel.

Other achievements includes winning awards such; Producer of the Year at Nigerian Music Awards 2006, Music Producer of the Year at Nigerian Entertainment Awards, 2007, Producer of the Year at the Headies 2011, and many more.
