Davido recounts inpiration behind his music career

Nigerian Afrobeats singer David Adeleke widely known as Davido has recounted the inspiration behind his music career.

Recall that the singer took a hiatus from social media and the music industry before releasing his fourth studio album, "Timeless," on Friday, March 31.

The singer has started a media tour to help promote the chart-topping album, and on one of the tours, he spoke with American media personality Ebro Darden on Hot 97 about the inspiration for his music.

In the interview, Davido recalled being dropped off at school by his uncle in Alabama one day and being surprised to see a pupil with dread locs.

When he saw the guy, he expressed surprise and pondered how a kid his age could have dreadlocks while attending class. Surprisingly, it turned out the guy was the director of the school choir.

The 'OBO' crooner said he'd often hear loud music upsatirs coming from the guy's room and one day he proceeded to check on him and to his astonishment, found a recording studio inside.

Davido stated that the man taught him how to record songs and that he eventually bought the entire studio from him because his father used to give him a lot of money.

He went on to say that he eventually had to watch YouTube videos and lessons in order to improve as a singer.

He sad: “My uncle dropped me at school and I saw a dude with dreads on. This dude happens to be the head of the church choir so I drew inspiration from that.

"I’m always hearing music upstairs from the guy so one day I went to his room and asked what he was doing and he said he was recording music.

"He showed me how to record and I asked him how much it cost for everything in the studio and I bought the whole studio because I had money. I watched videos on YouTube, tutorials and all that.”

Davido added that his father, Adedeji Adeleke was initially not buying the idea of he being a singer.

This he said was because his father wanted him to be "over successful" in life but after the feats he has attained, his father is super proud o ]f him and the path he took.
