Popular Nigerian X influencer, Ruth Agbukor, widely known as Ruth, has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Nigerian investigative journalist, David Hundeyin, over an alleged false, misleading, and defamatory post on X.
The lawsuit comes just hours after the Journalist alleged in a post made on X, that a group of X influencers who traveled to Ghana were sponsored by the Federal Government of Nigeria in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In his post, David shared a screenshot of a news article published on the official website of the PUNCH Newspaper, claiming that the IMF and the Federal Government of Nigeria had strategically organised the trip to persuade influencers into making false comparisons between the prices of products in Ghana and those in Nigeria.
He further alleged that the Federal Government orchestrated the move to prepare Nigerians for an impending rise in the Value Added Tax (VAT), which he believed would move from the current 7.5% to 10%.
His revelation quickly sparked heated conversations across social media, with Nigerians and Ghanaians clashing over the issue.
However, Ruth has formally responded to the allegation made against her and her colleagues by filing a lawsuit against the investigative journalist.
The suit demands that David Hundeyin either retract his claims or provide concrete evidence to support his assertion that the influencers were sponsored by the government.
