The Federal Court has ordered the release of singer Darlington Okoye popularly known as Speed Darlington in anticipation of a hearing on a defamation complaint.
The court issued this order a few hours after socialite Cubana Chief Priest promised to assist Speed Darlington in regaining his freedom due to his continuing feud with artist Burna Boy.
He mentioned that they would be there to make sure he was freed from detention.
The court reportedly directs Abubakar Marshal, Esq. to serve as Akpi's surety.
In an X post on Monday, January 6, 2025, the singer's attorney, Deji Adeyanju, emphasized the significance of the court's decision and confirmed the additional revisions made by the court.
He wrote, “The Federal High Court has directed the Nigerian Police to comply with the order to release Speed Darlington immediately pending the hearing of the substantive matter. “The court further directs Abubakar Marshal, Esq. to stand as surety to Akpi.”
