Court orders DNA test on late Mohbad’s son, Liam

The Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has ordered DNA tests to be conducted on Liam Aloba, the son of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The directive was issued on Tuesday by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga, following an application filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who is seeking to confirm the child’s paternity.

According to the court’s ruling, two separate DNA tests will be carried out—one in an accredited hospital in Nigeria and another at a facility abroad. Both parties, or their representatives, must be present during the collection of samples.

In his application, Aloba stressed that clarifying Liam’s paternity was necessary given its implications for child welfare and maintenance. He further requested that tissue or hair samples be obtained from the late singer’s remains at the Military Hospital in Yaba for use in the tests.

During the proceedings, Aloba was represented by Augustine Adegbemi of Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co., while Kabir Akingbolu appeared for Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba. With no objection raised by the respondent’s counsel, the court granted the application as requested.

The case has been adjourned until November 11, 2025, for further proceedings.
