COVID-19: Kogi govt suspends ban on religious gathering

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has relaxed the ban on religious gathering in the state thereby allowing churches and mosques to hold meetings.

As a means to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus, the ban was initiated two weeks ago and as such, social gathering of more than 50 people was restricted.

The Commissioner for information and communication strategies, Kingsley Fanwo, told journalists on Thursday in Lokoja, the state capital, that Governor Bello, ordered the ban be lifted with immediate effect to allow religious bodies have their normal worship and services.

He, however, urged religious leaders to put in place preventive measures such as the provision of Sanitizers for all worshippers at the entrance of churches and Mosques.

“Sitting arrangements in Mosques and Churches should be done to ensure social distancing,” he said.

The Commissioner said that Churches and Mosques should make their services as brief as possible in order not to keep a large crowd of worshipers within enclosed confinement for a long period of time.

He said that the COVID-19 Squadron Committee also urges religious leaders to continue to pray for the end of the pandemic so that the world can return to normal life and activities.
