Burna Boy’s talent or Mama Burna's influence: Which do you think won Grammy for Burna Boy?

One of the standout events so far in 2021 in the Nigerian Music Industry is winning and bringing of the Grammy Awards by Rivers State-born renowned artiste and Ye crooner, Burna Boy for the first time to the country.

The singer’s fourth album “African Giant” had earlier been nominated in 2020 but lost to veteran singer, Angelina Kidjo.

But the singer won’t miss it the next year as his album “Twice As Tall” won him The Best World Music Award at the 63rd edition of the award and made him the first Nigerian to ever win the award.

While some have doubted the singer’s talent and prowess, looking at the array of magnificent talents such as Wizkid Davido, Olamide, Kizz Daniel, and so on that the country presently boasts of, others have heaped praise on the gift of the 2019 BET Awards Best International Act “Artiste Of The Year” for being so gifted, excellent and consistent.

If the influence of his manager who happened to be his mother would be put into consideration, Burna Boy’s Grammy nomination and win might not come as surprise.

Bose Ogulu popularly referred to as Mama Burna’s impact in the management of the career of Damini cannot be over-emphasized as she has been one of the most experienced and versatile in the game.

While the likes of Asa Asika, Godwin Tom, Ubi Franklin cannot but be given kudos for what they are doing with their respective artists, it won’t be bad to say Mama Burna has the influence more than them all.

Recently, Billboard named her as one of the ‘International Power Players' for 2021. This can but be true, looking at the achievement, awards, and milestones she has built alongside her son.

Bose Ogulu’s profile is enough to win any artiste an award. Apart from having genes that could have been inherited from her dad, Benson Idonijie was a music critic and a manager of the late veteran singer Fela Kuti.

The co-founder of Spaceship Collectives is also a retired professor of Arts with the ability to speak 5 languages including English, German and French fluently, an added advantage you might say.

Bose has been supportive of her child’s career since the early 2000s. With Burna, she has won almost every award including the Headies, BET Award, All Africa Music Awards, MTV Awards, Sound city MVP Awards, and many more.

No doubt, the influence of Mama Burna can never be underestimated when it comes to Burna’s history.

With the likes of Davido and Wizkid being rated above Burna Boy over the years, I think it’s time to acknowledge Mama Burna’s recent effort on her talented son.

Guys, we would like to hear from you.
