Bello El-Rufai, son of Kaduna's state First Lady, Hadiza Isma El-Rufai and Governor Nasir El-Rufai has offered an apology for threatening to gang rape the mother of a man he had public disagreements with.

Bello is making this apology after his mother supported his comments which led to a public uproar and sack of Brittle Paper's deputy editor, Otosirieze Obi-Young, a writer who condemned the act.

Taking to Twitter, Bello admitted he was wrong as his comments were deviant from his core values.

"I wish to withdraw that statement and apologise to the gentleman concerned for the hurtful comment. I also apologise for appearing to attack an entire ethnic group for the misdeed of one person.

I regret the sexual innuendo in the private message and apologise unreservedly for it. I do not condone sexual violence," he added.

Admitting that he had fallen short of decency standards, he thanked all those who set him straight.

Promising to better, he said:

"I apologise to the general public in recognition of the duty to acknowledge wrongdoing and strive to be better," he concluded.
