Banky W speaks against Nigerians hiding behind religion to marry children

Singer Bankole Wellington aka Banky W has spoken against Nigerians who use religion as an excuse to get married to children.

In a tweet, Banky W revealed that Saudi Arabia which is the birthplace of Islam has raised the age of marriage to 18 years.

According to him, this no longer gives Nigeria the excuse to continue to allow child marriage.

He tweeted: "Some Nigerians try to hide behind religion as the reason why they should be allowed to marry children. But if Saudi Arabia - the kingdom, the headquarters i.e. Mecca, can raise the age of Marriage to 18 (because it's the right thing to do) then Nigeria has no excuse. #Timeup".

Some Nigerians try to hide behind religion as the reason why they should be allowed to marry children. But if Saudi Arabia - the kingdom, the headquarters i.e. Mecca, can raise the age of Marriage to 18 (because it's the right thing to do) then Nigeria has no excuse. #Timeup
