BBNaija All Stars: Doyin speaks on why Ilebaye won reality show

Former BBNaija All Stars housemate Doyinsola David, also known as Doyin has recently discussed with Sabi Radio why her friend, Ilebaye Odiniya, won the N120 million grand prize on the reality show.

Ilebaye Odiniya, a model who was born in Kogi State, defeated the other five competitors; Mercy Eke, Pere, Adekunle, CeeC, and Cross in the show's Sunday night finale.

Ilebaye's success, according to Doyin, may have been affected by what she dubbed "Nigerians' underdog mentality."

This point of view contends that Nigerians regularly stand by and lend support to those they perceive to be the victims of marginalization or persecution.

Miracle OP, the interview's host, went in-depth on the nature of reality programs and the typical tactic of isolating competitors.

He pointed out that when one player is left alone, particularly early in the game, many Nigerians often consider that person as a hero because they are the underdog.

He said: “We’ve seen different types of strategies [in reality shows]. And I don’t know why people still do this where they isolate somebody. Once you isolate somebody, especially so early in the game, human beings, especially Nigerians have the mentality that if a group of people are oppressing one person, that one person is our hero. It’s the underdog mentality.”

Doyin agreed with this assertion, pointing out that the show's Ilebaye storyline seemed to support it.

In Doyin’s words: “True. I think her [Ilebaye’s] storyline was meant to play out the way it played out.”

She asserted that the way things transpired in the house appeared to support Ilebaye's portrayal as the underdog.

Doyin, however, also admitted that she believed Ilebaye had betrayed her when the latter reconnected with Venita after an altercation the two had during their time in the house.
