'Aside padding budgets, what else do our senators do' – Basketmouth quizzes

Nigerian comedian and actor Bright Okpocha, better known by his stage name Basketmouth, is worried about the responsibilities and record of Nigerian senators aside from 'padding budgets'.

This comes after Senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Abdul Ningi was suspended for alleging that the 2024 budget was inflated by N3 trillion.

Basketmouth, who was reacting to the recent uproar in the upper chamber, questioned what senators do for a living aside from inflating budgets.

He also asked about the senators' initiatives that the typical Nigerian had benefited from during the last fifty years.

He wrote: “I’ve got a question… Aside padding budgets, what else do our senators do? Like…what have they done in the past 50years that favored the average Nigerian?”

His question comes after the Senate suspended Senator Ningi on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, for three months after he was found guilty of fabricating accusations against the Godswill Akpabio-led Senate, alleging N3.7 trillion in budget padding, and of making the baseless claim that the country has two separate budgets, one totalling N25 trillion and the other N28.7 trillion. .

As a result of the suspension, Ningi forfeits his rights and benefits as senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, including salaries, allowances, and entitlements. He is required to abstain from all Senate activities during the suspension period.
