Asherkine responds to claims viral video with canteen worker was staged

Content creator and influencer Asherkine, whose real name is Akinyemi Omotayo, has addressed criticism surrounding a viral video in which he flew a young woman he met in Ogun State to South Africa.

The influencer, known for surprising strangers with gifts, cash, and luxury experiences in his videos, faced scrutiny after some social media users alleged that the encounter was staged.

In the video, a 21-year-old woman identified as Chiamaka Clare said she worked at a local canteen in Ogun State where Asherkine first met her.

After speaking with her at the canteen, Asherkine invited her on a post-Valentine’s Day outing in Lagos when she mentioned she had spent the day working. Before leaving with him, Clare was seen calling her mother to seek permission.

The video later showed the pair traveling to Lagos, where Asherkine took her on a luxury shopping spree. They visited several stores including ZTTW owned by Zlatan Ibile, YL owned by Yhemolee, and a hair store owned by Tomike Alayande. During the outing, she also received gifts including an expensive wristwatch before they later went out for dinner.

In another moment from the video, Asherkine revealed he would be flying Clare to South Africa, a surprise that left her visibly emotional. Subsequent clips showed them enjoying activities such as clubbing and helicopter rides during the trip.

However, after the video gained widespread attention, some social media users began questioning its authenticity. Critics claimed that Clare’s social media presence did not match the image of a random canteen worker portrayed in the video.

Some users alleged that she works as a model and interior designer and had previously traveled outside Nigeria. Others also argued that her comfort in luxury settings and familiarity with the influencer appeared inconsistent with someone who had just met him.

The debate has since continued online as viewers remain divided over whether the encounter was genuine or staged for content.
