Nigerian musician Ahmed Ololade, better known by his stage name Asake, has allegedly split from rapper Olamide, the head of his record label.
The singer had deleted all of Olamide's content from his Instagram pages and unfollowed him a few days prior. He also removed the record label, YBNL, from his Instagram bio.
According to reports, Olamide offered Asake a new contract to sign when his previous one with YBNL expired, but the musician turned it down.
Olamide, however, tried desperately to get Asake to sign the contract, but to no avail.
Instagram vlogger Cute Juls, who announced this on his handle, claims that Asake recently left the negotiations in favor of becoming independent.
It was said, “The final straw happened two weeks ago when Asake walked out completely out of the deal, choosing to be his own boss."
Reacting to Asake's departure, Olamide noted that he did not create his record label to make money but to nurture talents who would be self-sufficient and also contribute to the music industry. Therefore, Asake was free to leave his record label if he wanted to.
He said, "I didn’t create YBNL because I wanted to make money. I created it because I wanted to see other young people grow, so if any artist under me wants to leave, they are free. Asake has done his part, and I’m proud of him.”
Asake joined YBNL in 2022 and rose to stardom with his breakthrough song "Sungba." He accomplished record-breaking feats, such as topping music charts and selling out the O2 Arena twice.
